Let’s gooo…Just finished editing a two-part series on writing better procedures.
Part 1 looks more at the technical side – action verbs, equipment identifiers, splitting compound instructions, and hazard labels.
We also unpack cognitive load, numbered steps, conditional logics (if/then) and high-risk hold-points and more.
Actually, we start with a more important question – do you *need* a procedure to begin with? They’re one option among many.
Part 2 digs into Safety-II / Resilience Engineering, exploring procedures as ‘resources for action’ rather than blueprints for compliance; and developing resilient skills and expertise.
Finally, I’ve restarted a new series of ‘Quickisodes’ on the tube – frenetic, poorly developed barely scripted videos recorded in powerpoint and with no editing or production value.
The goal is to share research, books & dissertations in the quickest time possible. We’re starting with a Safety-II debrief tool.
