Energy-Based Safety & SIFS // Rogue AI: This week on Safe As YouTube & Spotify

Energy-Based Safety (#EBS) & #SIF risk – is higher energy exposure more likely to kill people?

This week on Safe As YouTube & Spotify, we unpacked a study exploring the relationship between the energy magnitude and energy intensity involved in injuries, and their relationship to serious or fatal injuries.

And as is consistent with ~70 years of vehicle research and decades from process safety – yes, higher energy shows “strong predictive validity” for SIF risk, and supports the logic of “energy-based safety risk analysis” (Hallowell et al. 2017).

Part 2 of my interview with Professor Robin Dillon-Merrill also dropped. Her work is awesome: she shows how reporting near misses isn’t always value positive – it can also desensitise people to potential harm.

Robin also discusses her research on AI and Machine Learning (ML) in safety critical contexts like autonomous vehicles. Her research also unpacks the use of ML in large incident databases and other organisational data streams.

Check it out and please help share with your network 🙏
