My new paper: Failed audit or failing audit system? From Professional Safety / ASSP

Are your audits effective checks on critical risk systems or merely paperwork exercises that provide comfort?

Happy to share a little article I penned for Professional Safety / American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

Big thanks to them for the opportunity – and for making it look all purdy.

Here I discuss some research on how audits fail, including:

·        A misdirection of or blindness to serious threats and system effectiveness

·        Militant paperwork and false senses of safety

·        Silent failure mechanisms seemingly baked into the process

Writing this was a nice detour from two Journal articles I’m finalising from my PhD (and two more articles just for giggles).

Check it out and let me know what you think: does it gel with your experience of audits, or do you violently disagree?
